    Hey Guys,

I have decided that for now, i will create a website to serve as a creative outlet for both my article writing and my playing.

I've been searching up on different hosts and stuff but im quite confused and i am only experienced in building a geocities or xanga site (which is pretty easy).

I'm looking to get quite a bit of virtual space or whatever it's called to host stuff and also i expect to need quite a bit of bandwidth if i want people to download or stream this stuff.

But i can't seem to find a host that offers a customisable package. I.E all the hosts that offer packages with large bandwidths and space also come with additional features that i do not need (such as infinite e-mail accounts).

Also, i don't understand how every host service can allow me to buy any domain name? Does each host have their own set of domain names available. I mean if i want to register www.myname.com do i have to go to the host that has that domain or can i buy it from any host?

Also...once i've bought the domain, what do i about creating the site? Any useful but user/n00b friendly software...preferably free.

Also how much should i expect to pay for this kinda thing?

Thanks for your time and any advice
    Dan

Hosting stuff is very easy if you a) have the right hoster and b) have the right software to create your html pages.

I use a site called www.freewebsitehost.net to host my stuff, which offers 100MB of space (however, if you're sneaky, you can have multiple accounts if you set up multiple email addresses). I have been building a website over the past few days and it all works perfectly - http://lawrencedunn.freewebsitehost.net .

To design, i use a program called Dreamweaver MX. This is quite expensive, but you can get it on trial and then buy a registration code from their website whih is cheaper and less hassle than getting off your backside and going down and buying it at a software store. It's very easy to use, once you've read usage guides and so on. You can create very good looking websites using little or no previous expertees. www.macromedia.com - check it out there.

For a directory of hosters see www.free-webhosts.com .

    Hey Thanks for that info!

I am prepared to pay a little bit to get a domain just with my name www.danielsemperepico.com

I think websites are a great way to promote yourself and to build a fan base and connect with other people.

I think i've heard of dreamweaver before!

I'm digging the fonts on ur site

Also try www.1and1.com. They offer hosting for $4.99 a month and it comes with a domain name. They bill you 6 months at a time, which comes out to about $60 a year (pretty freakin' cheap!). If the domain name is available, you can get it through any domain registration site. I have used 1and1.com for the past 3 years and have had no problems whatsoever. It's probably easiest to get the domain name and hosting from the same place at the same time. Less technical hoops you have to jump through.

Send me a message if you have any questions.

    Mike
